Avoiding ShrinkFlation

Sadly, there's not a lot that we, as consumers, can do to avoid ShrinkFlation, but here are some tips that might help:

  • Shop By Unit Price - Comparing the unit prices of different sizes and brands of the same product can help you find the best deal.

  • Choose Store Brands - While name brands may have reduced the package size of their items, store/generic brands may not have followed. Going with a generic or local brand may offer you the best value
     
  • Speak Up! - Let manufacturers know that their shrinking products haven't gone unnoticed and that they risk losing a loyal customer if they reduce the value they offer to the consumer.
